We are delighted to begin the year with the top ranking for Commercial Disputes in the New Zealand Bar category, in this year’s Legal 500 Asia Pacific Bar Rankings.

Leading Silks ranked for 2024

Simon Foote KC: “An incredibly articulate silk, very persuasive with an excellent legal mind.” Simon has practiced as a barrister sole since 2002 and was appointed Queen's Counsel in December 2019. Simon has particular experience in complex construction and engineering disputes, notably in respect of power station construction, performance and operation, construction of large multi-level buildings, and earthquake litigation for insurers. Simon is also a member of Bankside Singapore.

Jason Goodall KC: “Jason is exceptionally intelligent, and a very logical and analytical thinker.” Jason was appointed a King's Counsel in 2022. He practices across the full range of commercial litigation, but has particular expertise in banking and finance, securities, insurance, insolvency, professional negligence, trust and property disputes.

Christine Meechan KC: Christine practices exclusively in the field of commercial litigation and has a wealth and depth of experience as a civil litigator. Since moving to the independent bar in 2008 Christine has continued to practice exclusively in commercial litigation, focusing on insurance and construction disputes. Christine is also very experienced in mediation and arbitration.

Tom Weston KC: Tom's practice involves both litigation in the Courts, at all levels including the Supreme Court, and by way of arbitration, both as arbitrator and as counsel. Tom handles a wide range of commercial litigation but also conducts trust and construction cases.

Jeremy Johnson: “Jeremy’s fierce intellect and ability to understand people makes him a formidable litigator.” "Jeremy is a confident and effective advocate in court and is not afraid of taking on difficult points"; "he is also well regarded for his arbitration expertise." Jeremy is an experienced litigator and dispute resolution specialist. He has expertise in commercial, insolvency, relationship property, equity and trust law. He is frequently instructed to appear as counsel in the courts and before arbitral tribunals and he is recognised as a leading senior junior with considerable experience in leading multi-week trials against senior counsel. He is also a member of Bankside Singapore.

Lauren Lindsay: “Lauren is a polished and astute advocate.” Lauren has a wide-ranging commercial litigation and international arbitration practice and acts as lead and junior counsel in either forum. More recently, Lauren has acted as lead defence counsel in a complex SFO prosecution in the High Court and been appointed as Counsel-assisting the Coroner for a Coroner's inquiry. Lauren is also a member of Bankside Singapore.

Rebecca Rose: “Rebecca is amazingly astute, and has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the law.” Rebecca specialises in general civil, corporate/commercial and public law. She has acted as counsel in all of New Zealand’s higher courts and in numerous leading cases. As a results-focused barrister, Rebecca is experienced at resolving complex and high value matters as well as smaller disputes in a practical and efficient way.
