Bio

Karen is Malaysian-Chinese but has strong ties to New Zealand after living there for more than half her life. Prior to working as a litigator, she worked in finance for 10 years, including stints in Australia, Singapore and Europe, before returning to New Zealand.

Karen received a Prime Minister’s Scholarship and graduated from The University of Auckland with an LLB(Hons). She is currently finishing her LLM with a focus on alternative dispute resolution methods.

Karen is admitted as a lawyer in New Zealand and in New South Wales, Australia. She holds a current practising certificate in New Zealand as a barrister sole and has acted as junior counsel on commercial matters in the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court in NZ, and in mediations, adjudications and in arbitrations in NZ and internationally. Karen also worked briefly in Energy Law in Beijing.

A recent construction claim worth around NZD 30 million took Karen back to Malaysia, where she assisted the respondent in achieving a negotiated outcome including full and final settlement of the claim.

In addition to English, Karen speaks fluent Mandarin, Bahasa and Hokkien. She comprehends Cantonese. Karen is based in Singapore and is available to serve clients in the Asia-Pacific region, Korea and China.
