Anja is an experienced barrister practicing general commercial and civil litigation. She has a particular expertise in insurance law, employment law, intellectual property, and commercial arbitration. She is familiar with both civil and common law legal systems and a native German speaker.

Anja holds an undergraduate degree in law from the University of Hanover in Germany and an LL.M. from Victoria University in Wellington. Anja completed her undergraduate studies in law in Germany in 2002. She moved to New Zealand in 2003 and completed her LL.M at Victoria University in the same year. Her LL.M. studies focused on the field of employment law.

Anja is an experienced barrister practicing general commercial and civil litigation. She has particular expertise in insurance law, employment law, intellectual property, and commercial arbitration. She is familiar with both civil and common law legal systems and a native German speaker.

Having appeared as lead and junior counsel in a variety of matters before the High Court, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court, Employment Court, District Court, Employment Relations Authority and Family Court, Anja also appears in mediations and arbitrations and has provided assistance in proceedings before the Privy Council.


Anja has assisted/acted for New Zealand and international clients in a wide variety of commercial disputes including contract, tort, employment, insurance, restitution, and intellectual property claims. She has assisted in large international commercial arbitrations in New Zealand and overseas and acted as secretary to the Tribunal in international arbitrations. She has also assisted with Government inquiries.


Anja is very experienced in managing large scale litigation including managing a team of solicitors and support staff when needed. She has a particular interest in utilising modern technologies to efficiently manage materials in complex proceedings, ensuring complex evidence can be clearly presented and navigated at trial allowing for smoother proceedings for her clients. She has also presented seminars to the profession on this topic.


After gaining practical experience in a large international law firm, Anja re-qualified as a New Zealand Barrister and Solicitor and was admitted to the New Zealand Bar in 2008. She first joined Bankside Chambers in 2006 and became a member in 2008. Anja was also admitted as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 2012.
