He has appeared as counsel in the District Court, High Court, and Court of Appeal on both civil and criminal matters, and has provided advice and advocacy in international and domestic arbitrations and mediations. He regularly publishes on litigation-related topics, including in an international litigation journal.

Stephen Rankin is a barrister employed by Philip Skelton KC, Kelly Quinn KC, and Dr Anna Kirk.

Stephen practises across a broad range of civil and commercial litigation. He has appeared as counsel in the District Court, High Court, and Court of Appeal on both civil and criminal matters, and has provided advice and advocacy in international and domestic arbitrations and mediations. He regularly publishes articles on litigation-related topics, including in an international litigation journal.

Before joining Bankside Chambers, Stephen was a Supervising Associate at a top-tier international commercial law firm in London, where he practised in international commercial litigation and international arbitration under the ICC and LCIA Rules. Earlier in his career, he worked in the commercial litigation team of a top-tier New Zealand law firm, served as a Crown Prosecutor, and was a Judges' Clerk at the High Court at Auckland.

Stephen holds an LLM (Distinction) from the London School of Economics and Political Science, which he obtained on Spencer Mason and Rotary Club scholarships. He also holds an LLB (Honours) and a BA (Double Major in French and History) from the University of Auckland, graduating with the Faculty of Law Dean's Academic Excellence Award. He previously tutored criminal law and land law at the University of Auckland.
