Bankside Barrister Anna Adams has been appointed to the Board of PHARMAC, the New Zealand Pharmaceutical Management Agency.
Anna is a national-level expert in public, health and regulatory law with over twenty-five years’ experience in advisory work and litigation, ranging from large-scale public cases through to small, personal matters.
Anna shares, “Over the next three years I hope to contribute to the success and sustainability of this important Crown entity, which is so central to the health of New Zealanders. Given the pace of medicines technology, Pharmac's decision-making within the billion-dollar public medicines budget has the potential to improve many lives and the productivity of the entire health system (people, places, supplies and time). I very much look forward to being part of this.”
Before joining Bankside Chambers in 2023, Anna was a partner at Meredith Connell for over fifteen years, including chair of the firm’s board for four years, and a Crown prosecutor. She is a member of the New Zealand and the New York Bars and a graduate of Yale Law School and the University of Auckland. She is an associate member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors.
Anna’s previous governance roles have included Board membership of the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand.
In the Beehive’s announcement, Associate Health Minister Mr Seymour said “I’m confident this board will provide the strategic direction and governance needed to deliver on my expectations for a world class medicines and medical devices agency.”
Anna joins newly-appointed lawyer Lucy Elwood, and current Board members Talia Anderson-Town, Dr Peter Bramley, Dr Margaret Wilsher and Chair Paula Bennett.
