Dr Simon Foote KC has been elected President of the New Zealand Bar Association Ngā Ahorangi Motuhake o te Ture (NZBA) for the period October 2026 to October 2028.
Simon was a NZBA Council Member from 2015 to 2023 and Vice-President (Auckland) from 2020 to 2023. Simon helped organise the New Zealand Bar Conferences, Trans-Tasman Bar Conferences, and a World Bar Conference during his time on Council. He also served on the Association’s Access to Justice Committee, chaired the Membership Committee and participated as an advocacy trainer in the NZBA Mastering Advocacy Faculty.
“When my term comes, it will be exciting to meet, support, and work with barristers and up and down Aotearoa,” says Simon, “and it will be challenging to continue to continue the NZBA’s missions to promote the rule of law, to improve access to justice, and to provide for the education and wellbeing of the Association’s members.”
NZBA's new Council term begins on 1 October 2025. Simon will be on Council as President-Elect until October 2026 when his two-year term as President begins. He follows Judge Kate Davenport KC (President, 2018–2020) as the second Bankside Chambers member to hold the presidency, and will join fellow Bankside member Sarah Jerebine on Council.
Bankside is proud to continue its support of the New Zealand Bar Association and to have our members take on leadership positions which are important to the independent bar and the legal profession more generally.
