Bankside Chambers is delighted to welcome four new juniors and accomplished emerging professionals: Nadia Murray-Ragg, Esther Cheyne, Rita Shasha, and Monique Pitt.
A graduate of Wellington’s Victoria University, Nadia Murray-Ragg was admitted to the Bar in December 2023. During her studies, Nadia worked as a Research Assistant and Summer Scholar at the Faculty of Law and held voluntary roles editing the Victoria University of Wellington Law Review, the New Zealand Women's Law Journal, and the Public Interest Law Journal of New Zealand. Before joining Bankside to work with Polly Pope, Nadia worked as a Judge's Clerk in the High Court in Wellington. She has published in the New Zealand Women's Law Journal and is currently an Associate Editor there.
Esther Cheyne completed the LLB component of her Bachelor of Laws (Honours) at the University of Auckland in 2024. Esther received awards in civil procedure, intellectual property, and privacy law, and she also tutored second and third-year law students at the University of Auckland in public law and equity. During her final semester, Esther interned with a commercial litigation team at Meredith Connell. She is employed by Michael Morrison.
Rita Shasha graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Victoria University in 2022. She received the Chapman Tripp Prize as the top graduating student across the LLB and LLB (Hons). Rita was a Judge's Clerk at the High Court of New Zealand in Wellington, where she clerked for Justices Ellis and Grau. She was admitted to the Bar in December 2023. Rita is employed by Bridgette White and William Potter.
Monique Pitt graduated from the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours), a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics), and a Faculty of Law Dean’s Academic Excellence Award. At university, Monique won numerous mooting competitions, led the Mooting Society, and was an inaugural recipient of the Queen’s Counsel Scholarship. Monique was a Judge’s Clerk at the Auckland High Court and was admitted to the Bar in May 2024. Monique is employed by Sam Lowery.
