Bankside is delighted to welcome leading commercial litigator Kim Francis to its set.

‍

A former partner of specialist disputes firm Lindsay Francis Mangan & Lee (launched as Lindsay & Francis in 2021), and previously a partner at litigation-focused firm Meredith Connell, Kim has over 25 years’ experience in complex commercial, regulatory and insolvency disputes, successfully appearing at all levels of the New Zealand court system.

‍

He worked in London for six years in international arbitration teams specialising in multi-jurisdictional disputes including shareholder and warranty disputes before returning to practice in New Zealand in 2010.

‍

Kim has particular expertise in arguing complex legal and factual issues in trials, appeals and arbitrations, from technical insolvency disputes to regulatory matters.

‍

Appearing in more than 20 cases reported for their legal significance, Kim has been involved in leading matters across a wide range of areas for major corporate and public sector clients.

‍

“I am thrilled to be joining Bankside,” says Kim. “For many years I have enjoyed working with or against barristers at Bankside and have the greatest respect for their advocacy and advice, not least in the international arbitration field. I look forward to working alongside its barristers and contributing to its commercial practice.”

‍

Kim is recognised by legal rankings including Benchmark Litigation and Chambers & Partners. A contributing author of leading texts Morison’s Company and Securities Law and Heath and Whale on Insolvency Law, Kim has also taught as an adjunct lecturer on courtroom advocacy at the University of Auckland.

‍

“Kim is a highly experienced commercial litigator with both national and international experience,” says Bankside Board Chair Philip Skelton KC. “He brings extensive advocacy experience in commercial, public, regulatory and insolvency disputes, and we are delighted to welcome him to chambers.”
